Tomorrow, Monday, January 1: Stop Sabotaging Your Weight-Loss Efforts & Start Now

Stop Sabotaging Your Weight-Loss Efforts

If you want to stop sabotaging your weight-loss efforts, you need to start right now. Waiting to address your health and well-being is actually an act of self-sabotage. Please, please, please, don’t wait until tomorrow or next Monday or January 1st of next year to make yourself and your health a priority.

When you put off taking excellent care of yourself, a few things happen:

  1. You lose trust in yourself because, really, would you trust somebody who told you they were gonna do something for you then kept putting it off
?
  2. You strengthen the belief, whether it’s conscious or subconscious, that you’re not worth the effort to take care of yourself and that you don’t value your own health and well-being.
  3. You signal to yourself that you’re not serious about your commitments to yourself and that your wants and needs aren’t a priority in your own life.

And all of those things will absolutely sabotage your weight-loss efforts.

Stop sabotaging your weight-loss efforts with perfectionism

Back when I was dieting, I was stuck in perfectionism and all-or-nothing thinking. So if I screwed up a little, I thought that gave me permission to screw up a lot. That left me telling myself that it was okay for me to blow it until the next morning or the next week or the next year.

I’d always tell myself, well, I’ll just start fresh tomorrow or Monday next week or January 1st of the next year with the expectation that I was gonna do it perfectly once I started fresh again.

If  you’re doing the same thing, there are a few problems with that kind of thinking:

  1. Who are you looking for permission from? And if the answer isn’t you, well, then that’s part of the problem.
  2. Making a mistake is not a good reason to keep intentionally making more mistakes.
  3. There’s no doing weight loss or the rest of your life perfectly.

Stop sabotaging your weight-loss efforts by giving yourself permission

Here’s the thing, you’re never gonna come to trust yourself by putting off what you know you need to do to take excellent care of yourself. And you need to trust yourself implicitly if you want to lose the weight and keep it off.

You also need to be the one taking full responsibility for your life and giving yourself permission. That means not giving yourself permission to blow it for hours or weeks or months when you make a mistake. That also means giving yourself permission to forgive yourself immediately when you screw up.

If you made a mistake, just do this . . .

You’re going to make mistakes no matter what while you’re losing weight so always cut yourself some slack. If you overate or binged or purged or starved yourself or did something else that makes you want to give up on yourself and quit, just do these three things:

  1. take a deep breath
  2. show yourself some compassion and be kind and gentle with yourself.
  3.  and just start again where you are, right now in this moment, by taking the next right step.

And if you don’t know what the next right step is, my book, Start Where You Are Weight Loss, will teach you the steps you need to take to get the weight off and keep it off.

Get off the diet-go-round. Get on with your life.®

My weight-loss journey & how it can help you stop sabotaging your weight-loss efforts

I got free. Your life can be that way too.

I made my own path because I needed to get myself out of the crazy-making behavior I was having around food. I needed no restrictions, no weighing and measuring food, no off-limit foods, no more judgment around food, no more judging my self-worth based on the scale, no more you’re-not-doing-it-perfectly diet rules that were only fueling my constant thinking about and obsession with food. I needed to modify and change any weight-loss technique I found useful to suit my own personal needs.

  • I lost 160+ pounds naturally & have kept it off for 8 years and counting.
  • I no longer have any eating disorders.
  • I no longer have a fear of food.

Just imagine what you could be doing with your life, following your own dreams and reaching your own goals, cultivating your own passions, making both your inner and outer worlds a more blissful and peaceful place, if you weren’t running in circles on the diet-go-round.

I got that for my life. I want it for yours. My books will show you how.
